While not complete yet, this is an attempt to chronicle the full extent of Marcy Playground's discography. I will be updating
it as I recieve more of the items. Clicking on the thumbnails of album artwork will take you to the larger images.
Please use the 'back' button on your browser to return to the discography page.
NOTE All items which have a 'no image available' icon next to them are of concern to me: these are the things I
am
still trying to find. If you have any idea where I can get these, please let me know! I will pay and/or trade for
these items.
Official Releases
COMMERCIAL RELEASE OF THE SELF TITLED CD There
were actually two releases of this CD. The first was on EMI. When EMI
went down the tubes and Capitol signed the band, the album was
re-released under the Capitol label. The Capitol version was released
Oct. 7, 1997.
|
COMMERCIAL RELEASE OF "SHAPESHIFTER"
Released November 2, 1999. In a special promotional deal, fans who pre-order the album
through Tower Records or
other online merchants have the chance to download two songs per week starting September
25, 1999.
|
ZOG BOGBEAN "FROM THE MARCY PLAYGROUND"
This was John's original demo that landed him the deal with EMI. He recorded this in 1990/1991 in his
bedroom. It is the original source of the song "Our Generation" which appears on Shapeshifter.
It is a fantastic album, highly reccomended. The original release was printed in very limited quantities (only 500 or 1000)
but it has since been reprinted. You can purchase Zog Bogbean for $10 on the
Marcy Playground Official Website.

SEX & CANDY SINGLE, 1998
This single was released March 24, 1998. It features the album version
of Sex & Candy (as heard on the radio) and two b-sides, Angel of the
Forever Sleep and Memphis. Angel & Memphis are not available on any
other recording or bootleg. The single was released in both CD and
cassette format. Only 175,000 copies were shipped. You can also see a scan of the
CD. An import version is also available in places. It features the same tracks
and artwork. The only noticable differences are that the CD itself is maroon instead of yellow,
and the jewel case is thinner.
|
CLEAR SEX & CANDY 45
This is a clear vinyl collectors' 7" version of the Sex & Candy single. It features the album version of
Sex & Candy and the two b-sides, Angel of the Forever Sleep and Memphis. This single was released
in the UK in March of 1998. It's worth grabbing if you can get your hands on it, as it's quite pretty and
rather rare in the states.

Promotional Releases
PROMO CD
This CD was released to record stations, reviewers, etc. It contains
the same tracks as the normal EMI/Capitol releases. The only difference
is a possible drummer switch on St. Joe on the School Bus. This
track was recorded with Dan Reiser for the non-promo CD, but it's not
clear if this album features the old drummer on this song. There are
several versions of this CD with multiple covers, all produced at
various points in Marcy's history.
|
SEX & CANDY PROMO - EMI VERSION
There are numerous promos for Sex & Candy. A few include the one pictured here, plain promos
with no artwork, radio station cds, etceteras. When Marcy was still on EMI, this particular
version was released.
|
SEX & CANDY, SHERRY FRASER SINGLE (ALSO RELEASED WITH POPPIES)
This single was released in spring of 1997. As you can see from the
sticker, it was used to promote the Toad The Wet Sprocket Listener
Appreciation tour which co-featured Marcy Playground. The cuts on this
CD are the same as those on the album. NOTE* There is also a copy which
contains Sex & Candy and Poppies. It looks exactly the
same, except for a lighter font text on the spine of the cardboard sleeve.
|
SEX & CANDY/ ANCIENT WALLS OF FLOWERS 7"
This '45 is a plain jukebox record, and it says "For Jukebox Use Only". It was released by Capitol

orange, black and red.
|
ST. JOE ON THE SCHOOLBUS PROMO SINGLE
This CD was not released commercially, but was made available to radio stations and

IT'S SATURDAY COLLEGE SAMPLER EP
Released in September of 1999 to help promote the new Shapeshifter album. It features the tracks "It's Saturday",
"America", "Wave Motion Gun", and "Our Generation". Artwork is from the album.
|
IT'S SATURDAY PROMO SINGLE
Released September 1999. Unlike the EP, this only features the first single from Shapeshifter, "It's Saturday".
Assumedly this is the radio station promo CD, although I am not sure of that. Can anyone help clarify the source
of the EP vs. the single?

|
FRUITCAKE
Released by Capitol Records in the 1998 holiday season as a sampler to be given out when you
purchase the album by one of the 5 artists appearing. Everclear does
"Santa Baby", 1000 Clowns do an original called "I Hate Fruitcake", the
Dandy Warhols chime in with "Little Drummer Boy", Smoking Popes do a
cover of "O Holy Night", and our faves Marcy Playground introduce an
original tune "Keegan's Christmas." The new Marcy tune takes its title
from the name of John's son, Keegan. (Quite a cute li'l guy, believe
me!). For more fun, go to the Official Capitol
Records Fruitcake site. They've got sound clips from each
song.

MARTY'S PART - SEX & CANDY CLUB MIXES
This CD scares me. It features someone quite pathetically attempting to imitate John Wozniak on Sex & Candy.
It also features some extremely bad remixes and 'dance' versions of this cover. It's a
fun one to have for the comedic value if nothing else. Released fall of 1997/spring of 1998.. anyone remember
exactly when?
